Shervonne Rodney commanded the stage at the Queen’s Park Savannah, Port of Spain, on Monday (Feb 20) to walk away with the 2017 Trinbago Unified Calypsonians’ Organisation TUCO/First Citizens Junior Calypso Monarch title.

The Arima Central Government Secondary School student delivered a seasoned performance of her song “Misconception” to dethrone defending Junior Calypso Monarch, Sharissa Camejo, who had to settle for second in a 16-strong field.

For her victory, Rodney picked up the winner’s trophy, a cash prize of $25,000 and a trip to Barbados to be a guest at its Junior Monarch finals.
Camejo, who sang “Progress Again”, walked away with a trophy and $20,000 in cash.

Deslie Julien of St Mary’s College took the third place prize of $15,000 with his song “The Writers of Tomorrow”, while fourth place and $5,000 went to Caryn Mc Carthy from Arima Central Secondary. She sang “Just a Name”.
